NEW YORK (NFL press release) - Britney Spears and Ms. Mary J. Blige will be performing a free concert for football fans to kick off the NFL season in Washington, DC. The show will precede the first game of the season, between the Washington Redskins and the New York Jets. NFL officials are reportedly hoping to add other big names to the concert line-up, including Kid Rock and Aerosmith. ABC-TV will broadcast the concert that same evening from 8 to 9 p.m. ET, prior to the first NFL game of the year. The 2003 NFL regular season will open with the New York Jets vs. the Washington Redskins at Landover, Maryland's FedEx Field on Thursday, September 4 at 9 p.m. ET. This year's kickoff will include pre-game specials on ABC and ESPN. Last year's NFL Kickoff extravaganza was held in Times Square in Manhattan and featured performances by Bon Jovi, Enrique Iglesias, Alicia Keys, and Eve.
