Maxwell was nominated for six Grammy Awards last night, capping a career year for the singer and songwriter. His album 'BLACKsummers'night' (Columbia) was released July 7.
The nominations are:

* Best R&B Song - Pretty Wings
* Best R&B Album - BLACKsummers'night
Maxwell previously earned six Grammy nominations for his albums 'Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite,' 'Embrya,' 'Now,' and the single "Fortunate."
It's been an amazing year for the gifted musician:
-'BLACKsummers'night' was certified gold after 4 weeks and is approaching platinum, one of the best-selling albums of 2009.
-Hailed as "an album of soulfulness and substance" (Jon Pareles, NY Times), 'BLACKsummers'night' is also one of the best- reviewed albums of the year.
-Maxwell sold out his summer and fall tours, including his biggest ever dates at Madison Square Garden, The Hollywood Bowl, and the Hammersmith Apollo in London.
-He set two records on the Billboard radio charts, becoming the first artist to hold the No 1 and No 2 spots on the Urban AC chart simultaneously, and the first male artist to log 50 career weeks at No 1 on the Adult R&B chart.
Maxwell will perform "Bad Habits" on the Jay Leno Show (NBC) tonight.
The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards will be held Sunday January 31st in Los Angeles.
