Washington, D.C. (Top40 Charts/ Keen Starz Official Website) - Nowadays it's the norm for a highly-accomplished or barely-known Female Songstress to soar to the top of the Billboard Charts on the wings of a controversial male-bashing record or female empowerment track. Just to name a few like, 'No Scrubs' (TLC); 'Bug a Boo' (Destiny's Child); 'He Wasn't Man Enough' (Toni Braxton); 'Like a Boy' (Ciara) and the ever so popular Beyonce, 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)' and 'If I Were a Boy'. Including the most recent
Mariah Carey record, 'Up Out My Face'. Even males in both the Rap and R&B arenas have contributed to the 'miss independent' movement.
Yet, 2010 seems to be the start of a decade fueled by a new epidemic in songs exposing deceptive and/or unfaithful females! Yes, men are finally stepping up to the plate and speaking out about the troubles in their relationships caused by the negligence of a trifling female.
Often Male R&B Superstar Usher makes a record playing the part of the bad boyfriend that cheated and fathered a child outside of his relationship, but recently his single 'Papers' (released at the end of the recent decade) seems to have inspired some of the music industry's already up-and-coming talent.
While not crediting Usher, Hip Hop/R&B Male Duo KEEN STARZ, comprised of Rapper/Songwriter LaPret (20) and Singer-Songwriter/Music Producer DaMar J (21) are out to stake new territory on an unclaimed ground. Their recording debut single 'Thing Is Off', available everywhere in digital retail stores April 13, 2010 (under LaPret World Music, via CD Baby) touches on males being played by deceptive women.
Written by American Songwriter LaPret, the concept of 'Thing Is Off' is centered on the call-off of a bad relationship with a deceptive female who not only lies and cheats repeatedly but ultimately attempts to play the victim, in lieu of being caught by her man.
The highly-emphasized phrase 'baby girl, this thing is off' empowers men to no longer be held captive by the stereotype that 'somewhere down the line it's their fault their lady 'played the field' or played them dirty.
The record references and empowers men in the use of knowledge, having paid attention in school, to evaluate and better observe situations and circumstances in order to realize that their woman is living foul. It also references men with the lack of knowledge, having not focused in school, allowing them to be run over by a fast-tailed feline.
'A lot of time we hear about our [Men] faults, people seem to ignore the fact that women cheat too and do even more. ' - says Rapper/Songwriter LaPret.
