ARTIST NAME : SMOKEALOTA (formerly known as "Smoke-A-Lot")
Smokealota was born and raised on the streets of New Orleans - the "Big Easy" as they call it, but it was anything but that for him. The N.O. is a veritable gumbo / a melting pot of all styles of music for a young person to be influenced by. At the age of 8 Smokealota heard N.W.A. for the first time and that inspired him to start rappin'. Since then, he's been on the grind ever since doing numerous albums with local labels, some national artists, underground cd's and a lot more.
The 1st album that gave him national exposure was with Averice Entertainment (formerly known as Mobb-Statis Ent.) The album was titled "NOLA SOLDIER" and he was using the name "Smoke-A-Lot". That CD sold over 60,000 copies just by word-of-mouth, shows and almost zero promotion - mostly on the west coast cuz' that's where the label was at and pushed most of the music. They also put out a few more CD's: "Unforgiven - Volume 1", "Unforgiven - Volume 2", and "Sex Drugs & Rap" featuring quite a few big name artists. Smokealota gained even more exposure by featuring on albums that included the likes of Tu-Pac, Master-P, Too Short, Scarface and more.
Since that time, Smokealota has been putting out his own CDs with his own money. In 2006, he released the album entitled "Ya Folk" on his own "SKS Records" featuring the hit single "On My Block". The song was prominently pushed in local clubs and was one of the most-downloaded songs on the internet with such sites as MySpace.com reporting an average of 4000 listens per day! Most CDs were sold "out the trunk" as Smokealota was performing all around the southern areas such as Memphis, Atlanta, Houston, Mississippi and - of course - Louisiana.
Currently, Smokealota has released his 3rd CD " titled " still ya folk" featuring all of his solo material so cop that trust me its off the porch.
There have been talks with quite a few national record labels but Smokealota isn't ready to just get with a national label for the sake of being able to just say,"I got signed." Getting signed to a national label isn't the hard part. It's finding the right company who will promote and cultivate his talents in order to achieve a long-lasting solid relationship that will get his music out to the fans as well as being in a situation that can grow into more than just an artist/label affiliation. Smokealota has done a plethora of ghost-writing for other artists, music production and helping other rappers get their sound together and he hopes to continue on that road - one day to produce and sign artists to his own SKS label in conjunction with a major label for publishing and distributing new and fresh talent.
