Grateful Dead will be truckin' onto movie screens again on Tuesday, October 7th, 2003 at 7:30 p.m. in a special presentation of The
Grateful Dead Movie at select Regal Entertainment Group theatres across the country.
The special One Night Only movie event will take place in REG theatres in 19 markets, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Denver, among others. Tickets range from $6 to $8 for advance purchases and $8.50 to $10.00 for general admission on October 7th. All tickets can be purchased at event location box offices or online at www.regalcm.com. Presented by Regal CineMedia (RCM), Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), Spring Communications, and Rhino/Warner Records, The Grateful Dead Movie celebrates the recent release of The Very Best of Grateful Dead CD.
The Grateful Dead Movie was shot during the legendary band's concerts at Winterland Arena in San Francisco in October 1974, prior to The Grateful Dead taking a two-year sabbatical. Under the direction of the band's lead guitarist Jerry Garcia and co-directed by Leon Gast, The Grateful Dead Movie has not been available in wide theatrical distribution since Garcia's death in August 1995.
The film debuted in New York City on June 1, 1977, and is equal measures of cinematic rockumentary and concert film, taking its place in film history alongside Woodstock and Monterey Pop. The Grateful Dead Movie chronicles several different facets of the original Deadhead phenomena and includes band performances of "U.S. Blues," "One More Saturday Night," "Casey Jones," "Playing in the Band" and "Sugar Magnolia," among other Dead classics. The feature-length film was originally distributed by United Artists and played throughout the summer of 1977 in San Francisco and select markets across the U.S.
