Los Angeles, LA (Top40 Charts/ Eleventh Records) - Coming off a rousing performance June 9 as the support act for
Jason Derulo at the sold-out The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza, rising pop star TINO COURY logs a huge accomplishment this week for an indie artist. The 21-year-old singer/songwriter/producer's debut single "
Diary"-which marks the first release from the newly formed ELEVENTH RECORDS-vaults into the nation's Top Forty chart at No 40.
The serious buzz first began in early May when "Diary"-a canny combination of exhilarating pop, slamming beats and lyrical drama that was mixed by Grammy winner Manny Marroquin (Usher, Alicia Keys)-landed on over 45 Top 40 and Rhythmic stations in its first week of release, an achievement unrivaled in recent history by any new artist.
Now, 82 stations across the U.S. are playing "Diary"-which is also now bulleted No 28 on Billboard's "Hot Dance Club Songs" chart-by the Pittsburgh-bred, L.A.-based artist. The song's video, directed by Roman White who has created videos for the biggest names in music today such as Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Justin Bieber, has logged nearly 400,000 views on YouTube. In a review of the single, Billboard noted: "Despite its themes of betrayal, dissatisfaction and letdown for its lead singer, the song's sticking point is an irresistibly buoyant beat that should keep listeners tuned in and dancing." (6/19/10).
COURY is the first artist signed to indie label Eleventh Records-distributed through Universal's Fontana-and will release his debut album later in the year. He has been earning fans all over the country by performing at various radio-sponsored shows with such artists as Train and Iyaz, among others. In addition to multiple radio station listener events, look for him to perform at the West Palm Beach station WLDI show July 4, the New Haven, CT station WKCI show July 12; and the Johnson City, TN station WAEZ show July 23.
