Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ Fender Musical Instruments Corporation/ Girl Rock Nation Official Website) - Girl Rock Nation launches tomorrow night to empower women of all ages to participate in music whether they play, produce, compose or simply listen to music. Girl Rock Nation will provide a unifying message of support and encouragement, a place to inspire and motivate women and girls of all musical styles and abilities. Fender Musical Instruments Corp. and the GRAMMY Museum are helping kick off the movement with a launch party tomorrow night.
'This is about creating a revolution, a Girl Rock Nation,'' said Jennifer Burton, Community Relations Manager for Fender. 'Fender is a proud supporter of female guitar players. This initiative is about giving these girls a resource and a place to learn how to rock, not only in the musical sense, but also as a person.'
Powerful female names in the music industry will share stories and insights in a panel discussion on women in music at 7:30 tomorrow night at the GRAMMY Museum located at 800 W. Olympic Blvd., Ste. A245 in Los Angeles. Speakers include:
* Allison Robertson (guitarist, The Donnas). Allison changed the way people think of 'girl guitar players,' founding The Donnas and traveling the world. She appeared on Saturday Night Live and in countless magazines and movie soundtracks.
* Alicia Warrington (drummer, The All-Girl Boys Choir and The Gore Gore Girls). Alicia is the drummer of choice for many well-known artists including Hannah Montana, Tracy Chapman, Selena Gomez and more.
* Mona Tavakoli (drummer, Raining Jane). Forming in 1999 out of the UCLA music community, Raining Jane was able to quit their day jobs in 2004 to pursue music full-time. The band is a notable example of independent success in the music industry.
* Radical Classical (classical guitarist/vocalist). The guest soloist for The Symphonic Symphony in Paris, France, Radical Classical has performed and headlined at locations ranging from conservatories and arts theaters to mainstream venues and underground metal festivals.
The discussion will be moderated by Carla DeSantis, a leading advocate for women in rock. A musician and music industry veteran, she founded, published and edited the groundbreaking ROCKRGRL magazine.
A new Web site (www.girlrocknation.com) will be the gathering place where women can discuss music, learn about females who rock, and seek advice on songwriting, producing music and playing an instrument. For beginners, the Web site will be a starting point. For those who already have a deep musical knowledge, the site will help them improve. Those who do not play an instrument can find inspiration to rock in other ways, and find something to stir their inner 'rocker.'
