New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - "Don't be surprised when the soundtrack to Austin-bred low-budget comedy Baghdad
Texas starts to garner Grammy buzz," said the Austin Chronicle last week, which described the music as "a dusty assortment of West
Texas mysticism, Middle Eastern charm, and Tex-Mex instrumentals."

The 'Baghdad Texas' soundtrack is out now on Loudhouse Records and was produced, written and performed by Austin eccentric Booka Michel, a well-known percussionist, movie producer and pecan farmer. Michel has performed with Butch Hancock, Odetta, Flaco Jimenez, Peter Yarrow, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Jimmie Carl Black, Townes Van Zandt and many others. The music reminds me of a cross between some of Ry Cooder's work and Mark Mothersbaugh's 'Rushmore' soundtrack.
'Baghdad Texas' features Booka Michel and The Flaming Geckos: John Reed (Doug Sahm, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Marsha Ball), Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Asleep At The Wheel), Glenn Fukunaga (Joe Ely, The Dixie Chicks), Ray Benson (Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel), Ralph White (Bad Livers) and Zhenya Rock (Red Elvises).
The film just made its first theatrical run in New York City. It premiered at the Palm Springs Film Festival in 2009 and screened at the Cannes Film Festival market this year.
