Philadelphia, PA (Top40 Charts/ howsaboutnow.com) - To say that SPiN took the road less traveled on their way to the
September 28 release of their debut full-length album, BELiEVE, would be an understatement.
The Philadelphia foursome has played more than 500 live shows across 22 states, received and ignored a cease and desist letter from Spin magazine that requested the band change its name, then spent a year producing, engineering, mixing and mastering BELiEVE on their own inside a 150-year-old funeral home in South Philadelphia while also creating their own website, press photos and album artwork. 'What started out as an experiment in learning to record better demos ended up being our first full-length album,' says lead singer Eric Rothenheber.
Drawing comparisons to bands like Muse, Queen, HIM and The Cars, SPiN's alternative pop/rock infused sound earned the band all sorts of critical acclaim following the release of their self-titled EP in XXX. Their single 'Home' reached No 7 on the FMQB charts, the video for 'Playing Dead' was in rotation in the U.S. on FUSE TV, in Canada on AUX TV, and online as a NEW Yahoo! Music featured video, and several songs from the EP also were featured on the MTV series 'Teen Mom.' 'SPiN brings more to the table than just great hooks,' says Brian Tippy of INRAGE Entertainment. 'It may be cliche to state SPiN has nothing but good things in store for them, but the pieces they have in place so far easily (justify) that expectation.'
To celebrate the release of BELiEVE, the band is hosting a CD release show at Philadelphia's Grape Room (105 Grape Street) on October 30. With an impressive body of work already to their name, SPiN's full-length debut is making some early waves. 'BELiEVE is an album mixed of hard-driving power chords and edgy overtones layered over thoughtful, subtle melodic progressions,' writes Dawn Marie Fichera from antiMusic.com.
'Don't Look Down' has single success stamped all over it.' Armed with their distinctive sound, the band has opened for several multi-platinum acts, including Puddle of Mudd, Hinder, Trapt and Fat Joe.
SPiN also received both a 2010 and 2011 ASCAPlus songwriting award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. They are already at work on new material, which they plan to release through a series of smaller EPs beginning in early 2011. '(SPiN) just might be the total package musically,' proclaims Wildy's World blog. 'Great songwriting, smart lyrics, a profound sense of melody and harmony, and a vocalist you could listen to all day long. This is what rock and roll is all about!'
