NEW YORK (Source magazine) - The Source Magazine held a press conference in New York City yesterday to play a 1993 free-style featuring what they allege to be a youthful Eminem using the N-word and making racist comments about African-American women. Eminem issued a statement yesterday saying, "The tape they played today was something I made out of anger, stupidity and frustration when I was a teenager. I'd just broken up with my girlfriend, who was African-American, and I reacted like the angry stupid kid I was. I hope people will take it for the foolishness it was, and not for what somebody is trying to make it into today." Eminem also accused the magazine of having a "vendetta" against him and the rappers represented by his Shady Records. Source editor Kim Osorio described the tape as "racist remarks by someone who has the ability to influence millions of minds." The Source is planning to devote its February issue to the tape, and plans to include a CD of the freestyle with the issue.
