Brooklyn, NY (Top40 Charts/ CHEEZ CAKE KIDZ RECORDS) "Sprinkles on My Cake" is the debut release of "hood rock" indie pop band Young Jimmy & Super Tanz on their self created label CHEEZ CAKE KIDZ and features legendary rapper Grand Master Mele Mel on their single "The Movies".
The album was produced by Young Jimmy and recorded at Monsterland Studios (Mel's vocals, Brooklyn, NY), Eggmen Studios (Brooklyn, NY) and Eric Trichon Studios (Ithaca, NY) and showcases duo Young Jimmy (all songwriting, male vocals and guitar) and Tanz (all female vocals with the exception of Beautiful Distraction).
"We're calling it hood rock as an inclusive term, really, black kids listen to rock music. There are white rappers. You should listen to whatever you want! It's Jimmy's platform to write, too; the music is rock and it's informed by where he grew up." - Tanz
"This album is no different from a rap album in that I got a story to tell as a songwriter. Even though I'm a rocker, I'm from the same hood they're from." - Young Jimmy.
Young Jimmy is a songwriter, guitar player and vocalist raised in Bushwick, Brooklyn. He's been shredding since age six. He studied music at Lehman College and received a full scholarship to Greenwich Music School. Tanz, a native of Texas, listened to female rock and country singers growing up. She studied acting and singing at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and is mentored and coached by critically acclaimed soprano singer/songwriter Elaine Lachica. She's able to sing soprano opera arias, but her first love is rock!
Both artists performed in NYC clubs in local pop- punk bands (Young Jimmy: Sankofa, Super Tanz: The Erase-Hers) before finding each other and creating what is now indie rock/pop/dance/punk fueled music machine that is Young Jimmy and Super Tanz. Influences include: Jimi Hendrix,Slash, Barbra Streisand, Michael Jackson, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., New York Dolls, David Bowie, Iggy, Pop, Nara Leao, Linds Rondstadt, Heart, Alpha Beat, Camera Obscura and Asobi Seksu.
