Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ Cinemedia Promotions) Coinciding with the release of the film on DVD, Moviescore Media (www.moviescoremedia.com) has released the Cool Dog - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The film features the original music composed by Stephen Edwards (Feast, Lionheart, Ninja). Cool Dog was directed by
Danny Lerner, whose 2007 film Finding Rin-Tin-Tin also features music by Edwards (soundtrack available from Moviescore Media).
The world's most famous German shepherd travels to 'The Big Apple' for a series of adventures.
Jimmy, a vibrant ten year-old boy, lives in the tranquil town of Eagle Rock, Louisiana, with his father, stepmother and, most importantly, his best friend-a German shepherd named Rainy. When Jimmy's father gets a promotion, the family must relocate to an apartment in New York City that has a strict 'no pet' policy. Unwilling to let his master go without a fight, Rainy embarks on a cross-country journey to New York-but navigating the Big Apple is just the beginning of his challenging adventure.
The film features a charming orchestral score by Edwards. "I felt - and director Danny Lerner agreed, that we would be short-changing this movie if we didn't score with a live orchestra," Edwards described. "It's a family film about a dog and the warmth and human quality of an orchestra is a perfect way to convey the heart and emotion of the story."
Edwards would approach the score as if it were a 'theme and variations.' Even within the use of recurring themes, there is a lot of variety to the score, from more lyrical themes "No Girl Splat", to physical comedy "Mayhem Flour" and even bullfighter music. "Since Danny, Boaz Davidson, Selena Arizanovic and the rest of the Nu Image team really liked the score for Rin-Tin-Tin, they were open to many of my creative ideas for the film," Edwards added.
Michigan native Stephen Edwards' music education began at an early age, with training by his mother, Rosalie Edwards, followed by studies at Interlochen and the University of Michigan music school. Edwards received a bachelor of music in piano performance from Lawrence University. As a graduate of the Dick Grove School of Music, he was the recipient of the "Outstanding Classical Soloist" award sponsored by Downbeat magazine, and winner of the All-American College Orchestra National Talent Search sponsored by Disney World.
A prolific composer, Edwards has scored more than 70 movies, from comedy to action, martial arts to documentaries. He started out in film music working for prolific television composer Mike Post. Since then his film credits include Feast, The Patriot, Hellraiser: Hellseeker, Undisputed II: Last Man Standing, Today You Die, Ninja, and Lionheart.
