Nashville, TN (Top40 Charts/ Webster PR) The Grascals have taken home three of the awards given at last night's 37th Annual SPBGMA Bluegrass Music Awards. Their wins include Instrumental Group of the Year, Danny Roberts, Mandolin Performer of the Year and Kristin Scott Benson, Banjo Performer of the Year. "It's an amazing feeling," says The Grascals' Jamie Johnson. "We've worked really hard to carry the tradition of bluegrass to new audiences, and we are honored to be acknowledged." Johnson was also "humbled" to present the Hall of Greats award to legendary bluegrass singer/songwriter and member of The Boys From Indiana, Aubrey Holt. "We're both from Milan, Indiana, and he's been an inspiration to me for many years," Johnson says of Holt. "Aubrey has written some of the greatest songs in bluegrass history; he's had songs cut by Alison Krauss, Blue Highway, and many others, including The Grascals. I'm proud to call him my mentor, but most of all, my friend." In addition to their wins last night, The Grascals have been celebrating their best Billboard chart numbers ever, with the current No 1 Top Bluegrass Album(three consecutive weeks) and peaking at No 23 on the Top Country Album chart with their newest CD, The Grascals & Friends - Country Classics with a Bluegrass Spin. The disc is available exclusively at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and online at crackerbarrel.com. Cracker Barrel is donating a portion of the proceeds to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Already among the most beloved and acclaimed bands on today's bluegrass scene, The Grascals have previously won SPBGMA's Bluegrass Band of the Year award in 2010, the International Bluegrass Music Association's Emerging Artist of the Year award in 2005 and earning its Entertainer of the Year honor in both 2006 and 2007. Two of their previous CDs (THE GRASCALS, 2005 and LONG LIST OF HEARTACHES, 2006) have earned Grammy nominations for Best Bluegrass Album.
