IODA Announces Line Up For Highly Anticipated Artist Showcase Event At SXSW Conference
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ IODA) IODA, the global leader in digital distribution, marketing, and technology solutions for the independent music and film industry, today announced the details of its Annual IODA Opening Day Bash at the upcoming South by Southwest Conference and Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. Over the last seven years, the concert has proven itself an essential showcase for some of the hottest acts of the year including Blind Pilot, The Black Angels, Deer Tick, Bear in Heaven, Sleepy Sun, Carsick Cars and Frightened Rabbit.

As IODA continues to expand its international footprint, most recently announcing plans to launch IODA Africa, the company's marketing team has focused on bringing attention to a roster of developing artists from across the globe. This year's IODA SXSW Opening Day Bash line up is the culmination of these efforts, representing 11 buzz bands - seven of which are from regions outside of the U.S. including China, France, Sweden, Taiwan and the UK.

During the conference, IODA Founder and CEO Kevin Arnold will moderate the panel "The Indie View: What the Latest Digital Music Models Mean to Indies." Arnold will also participate in the panel "Entrepreneurs in Music" moderated by Jonas Woost.

An annual tradition, all bands featured at IODA's Opening Day Bash will be part of IODA's free SXSW music sampler. To hear this collection of music, go to www.iodasxsw.com.

Where: Emo's Annex, 603 Red River (corner of 6th & Red River), Austin, TX
When: Wednesday, March 16th, 2011
Time: 12 - 6 pm

Performing Artists:

12 pm: Withered Hand (Absolutely Kosher) - Edinburgh, Scotland
Known for his blunt lyricism and command over fragile melodies, Withered Hand's debut album "Good News" has received critical acclaim from MOJO Magazine, regular BBC airplay and played several live performances on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC 6Music. 2011 brings Withered Hand's debut a proper release in North America by Absolutely Kosher Records.

12:20 pm: Geographer (Tricycle Records) - San Francisco
San Francisco three piece Geographer spent 2010 crafting their songs into the driving, heart-pounding epics that make up "Animal Shapes." Named a "Pop Artist to Watch in 2011" by iTunes, Geographer is poised on the brink of becoming one of the most exciting newcomers in independent music.

12:45 pm: Queen Sea Big Shark (Modern Sky) - Beijing
Queen Sea Big Shark is a Beijing based dance-rock/electro band. Formed in 2005, the band is arguably China's most recognizable band - featured in massive campaigns for Converse, Diesel, and Dell Computers. Lead singer, Fu Han, known for her chaotic and mesmerizing stage presence, won Best Female Vocal Performance at the 2010 Midi Awards.

1:15 pm: Fredrik (The Kora Records) - Malmo, Sweden
Swedish electro-folk three-piece Fredrik return with "Flora," a follow-up to their 2010 sophomore album "Trilogi." Fredrik build songs from dense, wavering textures of voice, strings, brass and twinkly homemade folk instruments and combine it with hyper-soprano singing and a restful, abstract storytelling. "Hailing from Malmo, Sweden, Fredrik makes music with just the right mix of light and darkness: It's quirky but elegant, spare but rich." - NPR Music

1:45 pm: Weekend (Slumberland) - San Francisco
Formed in San Francisco in late 2009, Weekend has quickly developed a totally distinctive take on noise rock, releasing its new album "Sports" as one of the most assured debuts in recent memory. "... No Age aren't the only shoegazing punks in Cali. Granted, Weekend are pretty far from sunny LA, literally and even more so musically, so keep a bottle of vitamin D nearby. You'll be closing your blinds and putting this one on repeat, so you're going to need it." - Other Music

2:30 pm: Aphasia (White Wabbit) - Taipei, Taiwan
Aphasia is one of the most established bands in Taiwan's indie rock scene. Aphasia's latest album takes the listener on a sonic walk through the day in the life of a Taipei resident. "I'm going out on a limb in predicting that fans of Explosions In The Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mono and the more dilettantish leanings of Sonic Youth will find that Aphasia sets their tails wagging." - My Old Kentucky Blog

3 pm: True Widow (End Sounds) - Austin
Previously from the band Slowride, Dan Phillips joined forces with vocalist and bassist Nicole Estill, and drummer Timothy Starks to create True Widow in 2008. "Reviewers have described True Widow as 'sonic noir' and 'stonegaze,' both of which are fairly appropriate, it's definitely dark and moody... but it's really just some sort of perfect gloomy heavy postrock." - Aquarius Records

3:30 pm: The Bewitched Hands (Look Mum No Hands/ Sony Music Entertainment) - Paris
The Bewitched Hands is a seven-piece collective from France that creates a psychedelic maelstrom. They owe as much to the Flaming Lips or Grandaddy than to Mercury Rev or Arcade Fire. Guitars thunder, delicate folk vocal harmonies intertwine, tambourine is bashed around; it's a bewitching sight to behold.

4:15 pm: Typhoon (Tender Loving Empire) - Portland
Legends in the Portland, OR, house show scene, the 12 member+ Typhoon, fronted by the heart-rending vocals of songwriter Kyle Morton, craft songs that somehow combine the tenderest of folk with the epic-est of rock. "Singer Kyle Morton leads the pack with a voice that bluntly hits a raw nerve, and when the full Typhoon ensemble opens their throats to sing along, the moments become transcendent." - Portland Mercury

5 pm: Beach Fossils (Captured Tracks) - Brooklyn
Inspired by improvisational jazz, classical and shoegaze artists, Beach Fossils blend straightforward guitar riffs, a kaleidoscope of psychedelic rhythms, and distant, faded vocals to make the perfect soundtrack to an endless summer afternoon. "Oh, that hook! Immediately familiar, yet impossible to place; a riff so warmly nostalgic it feels classic upon the first listen. Brooklyn's Beach Fossils make good use of it, putting it right up front." - Pitchfork

5:30 pm: Gold Panda (Ghostly International) - London
Having built up a library of original, dizzyingly eclectic electronic music from diverse influences and source material, Gold Panda began leaking remixes to various labels, blogs, and tastemakers, all of whom instantly took notice. Little Boots, Telepathe, Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco, HEALTH, and The Field also began to leverage Gold Panda sounds. "Perhaps the most striking thing about Lucky Shiner is how human it sounds. Despite Derwin's love of the more challenging end of electronic music, there's none of the icy emotional distance people tend to associate with electronica or sample-based music." - The Guardian UK First Album Award
