The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown - We've Got The Funk!
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Lisa Vega Group) The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown is the first band of its kind to include funk superstars from iconic bands including Norwood Fisher (Fishbone), Patryce "Choc'Let" Banks (Graham Central Station), Michael Ray (Kool & The Gang), Linda Shider Sidney Barnes, Terence Higgins (The Dirty Dozen Band), Danny Bedrosian (P-Funk), and a host of others.

"Welcome to the Big Ol Nasty Getdown a plan for a band banded together by a jam a psychedelic sandwich of sorts, cohorts escorted to a revelation by the members of a deeper civilization"
- J.P. Miller from the track The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown

We've got the funk! And The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown is here to bring back true musicianship - that original vibe when you can't help but move and groove to the baddest beats, tastiest guitar riffs, smoking horns and of course, power vocals. There are no posers here. The band is 100% authentic with a line-up that reads like a page from the funk history books. The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown was the pet project of the late Garry Shider and the band's forthcoming album Volume 1 (in stores May 3rd), features some of the last recordings of this legendary musician.

"Garry was the glue that made the magic happen," says Linda Shider. "He was the person we all looked to for guidance. Even though he is not here, he left his mark on The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown. Being a part of this project has been awesome for me and I can't wait to play again with the band."

The first single from The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown is "Room 2012" written by Greg Hollowell and The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown with lyrics and vocals by new funk vocal powerhouse Reverend Desmond D'Angelo. The track features backing vocals by the Godfather of Funk himself George Clinton, Garry Shider, P-Funk siren Belita Woods, Funkadelic's Sidney Barnes, newcomer Laura
Reed and players from Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, The Dirty Dozen Brass Brand, to name a few. It is a modern day love song set against the backdrop of the mythical 2012 apocalypse.

The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown ringleader and band co-founder John Heintz' mission is to bring back funk and introduce the genre to a new generation. His philosophy is to create an atmosphere where funk icons pass the torch to a new group of funksters while creating something new together. He keeps the family feeling alive where the freedom to express oneself artistically is explored to the fullest extent. Their live show and new album captures this energy and soul.

"When I perform with The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown it is both fun and sentimental," said singer Patryce "Choc'Let" Banks. "John Heintz is genuine in his feeling to keep funk alive. He's gathered up all the original funkateers and given us a stage to perform together. Every genre of music has gotten the acclaim it deserves except funk music. It's time has not only come...it's long overdue!"

The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown came to life on Dec 15th 2007 when 30 musicians from 15 different bands gathered in New Orleans for a musical experiment that many said couldn't be done. Members of Parliment-Funkadelic, Galactic, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Lee Boys, Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, Dumpstaphunk, and the Derek Trucks Band, to name a few, got together with the sights set on making a historic album. The idea was to take all of those festival players that sit in with different bands and put them all together to make an album. What came next was an experience so powerful that it created an instant nationwide buzz. With the album complete and the line-up having grown to 60 musicians from 30 bands, The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown is gearing up for the release of Volume 1 and to take it on the road this summer.

The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown Volume 1 was produced by John Heintz, J.P. Miller, and Frank Mapstone and is scheduled for release May 3rd. It was recorded in New Orleans and at George Clinton's studio in Tallahassee, FL. The album will be released on Getdown Entertainment, a grass roots company founded by John Heintz to provide a forum for musicians to create freely without restrictions or sacrifice quality.
