NEW YORK (Island Records announcement) - Island Records today announced the release of Just For You, the new album from legendary singer/songwriter Lionel Richie, arriving in stores on May 4, 2004. Just For You was recorded in London, Miami, Los Angeles and New York and has resulted in Richie's broadest-reaching effort to date.

Richie pursued fresh directions with Just For You, working in London with Paul Barry and Mark Taylor (the duo behind Cher's smash "Believe" and Enrique Iglesias' "Hero") and collaborating with label mate Daniel Bedingfield for the track "Do Ya" (co-written together and produced by Bedingfield).

Richie then flew to Miami to work with 7 Aurelius (who has made hits with Ashanti, Mariah Carey and Ja Rule) and recorded three songs with Lenny Kravitz. He took two songs, "Road To Heaven," (produced by Kravitz and co-written by Lionel and 7 Aurelius) and "Time Of Our Life" for Just For You, and "Destiny," their third song, will appear on Kravitz's next effort.

Other songs on the upcoming CD include the textured and soaring ballad "Long Long Way To Go," produced by Rick Wake (J-Lo, Mariah Carey, Billy Joel,) the stirring rhythmic throb of the title track "Just For You," the Celtic flavored "Just 2 Be With You," the Middle Eastern whirl of "She's Amazing," and the soulful, gospel anthemics of "I Still Believe." The ebb and flow of "Ball and Chain" (which begins with just Richie's guitar and builds to a sweeping, electrified rock bridge,) and the socio-political flavor of "One World" have all contributed to the unique and groundbreaking flavor of Just For You, an album that Richie is truly proud of.

Richie will also co-host and perform at the upcoming "Motown 45" special, which will air on ABC Television on May 3, 2004.
Lionel Richie is one of the world's most recognized and rewarded performers. He has sold nearly 100 million albums and notched 22 Top 10 hits - 13 of them during a jaw-dropping swing between 1981 and 1987. Five Grammy Awards, an Oscar, a Golden Globe and an ultimate record: only Richie and Irving Berlin have scored No. 1 hits in nine consecutive years!
