Chip Taylor To Play NYC's Iridium July 7, Historic Site Where He Wrote 'Wild Thing' And Other Classics
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) In 1956 a sixteen year-old Chip Taylor recorded his first demo at the Allegro recording studios located in the basement of Manhattan's 1650 Broadway, embarking on a life in music that would stretch decades and see him write one of the most iconic songs of the rock era. Fifty-five years later, on July 7, 2011 Taylor will return to the very same space, now housing the famed Iridium, to perform classics and songs from his new album 'Rock and Roll Joe' out now on Train Wreck Records.

The demo Taylor recorded at Allegro got him signed to King Records and, as his career developed, he returned to the same building almost a decade later, employed as a songwriter for April Blackwood Music, a company that eventually evolved into EMI Music. By then 1650 was known as a counterpart to the nearby Brill Building, housing Rock and R publishing houses, labels and writers. It was there that Taylor wrote two of his biggest hits, "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning."

"I actually saw a yet-to-be-discovered Jimi Hendrix walking down the street from my office window one day" recalls Taylor acknowledging the irony, "I didn't know who he was but he sure stuck out!" (Hendrix famously performed "Wild Thing" years later.) "I'm excited to play The Iridium. The venue actually sits in the space where the original studio was. The audience's seats are right where the bands played back then, I can picture the whole thing," says Taylor.

Rock and Roll Joe is more than an album but also an interactive multimedia project spearheaded by Taylor and friends dedicated to promoting the unsung heroes and underdogs of rock music - the people who were, and still are, critical to the spirit, passion, and vitality of rock and roll, but have never received the credit and recognition they rightfully deserve.
