NEW YORK (CNET anouncement) - CNET Networks launched a legal music service Monday. The company said it has been encouraging artists to upload their songs for several weeks and has accumulated thousands of tracks which can be downloaded free. "We are the first large-scale provider to offer free music downloads in a discover-focused environment, saving music fans valuable time in finding tunes that match their tastes," said Scot Arpajian, senior vice president of CNET Download.com. "Our goal is to provide music fans free digital fuel for their devices and exposure to original artist and songs that can become their new favorites. The company CNET said the download site will be separate from a planned new MP3.com Web site which will focus on information.
