LOS ANGELES (Latin Grammy Awards Press) - After a one-nighter in Miami, the Latin Grammy Awards are headed back to Los Angeles. The Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday that the move is motivated by practicality and cutting costs. The Latin Recording Academy announced today that its celebration of the 5th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will take place on Sept. 1 and will originate from Los Angeles' landmark Shrine Auditorium. The show - which features performances from some of the genre's most important and exciting artists - will be broadcast on the CBS Television Network from 8-10 p.m. (ET/PT). In addition to its U.S. broadcast, the 5th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will be broadcast in approximately 100 countries worldwide. Some of those involved in organizing the awards show last September in Miami said that the city is too political to host such an event. There was ongoing controversy over the inclusion of Cuban performers from South Florida's exile community.
LARAS officials said Los Angeles is home base for the production company of the award show and the network that broadcasts the event, so the move is a practical one. Nominations, including two new categories, to be announced July 14. This year's awards will be held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles in September 1st.
