NEW YORK, NY (Top40 Charts/ Atlantic Records) Atlantic recording group Death Cab for Cutie has unveiled details of their upcoming fall tour. The dates - which celebrate the recent release of the band's critically acclaimed new album, "CODES AND KEYS" - begin
September 30th in Cincinnati and then continue through a major hometown headline show at Seattle's Key
Arena at Seattle Center on October 22nd (see itinerary below). Furthermore, DCFC will also be among the headline acts appearing at Sunrise, Florida's annual Langerado
Music Festival on October 8th and San Francisco's Treasure Island
Music Festival on October 16th.
Death Cab for Cutie will be accompanied on their upcoming schedule by an extraordinary range of special guests, including Telekinesis (September 30th through October 10th), Explosions In The Sky (October 15th), The Hold Steady (October 18th - 21st), and The Head And The Heart (October 22nd). Presale tickets for all dates except the previously announced Key Arena show will be available to members of the band's official fan club, DCFC Union Local No 1138, beginning Wednesday, August 3rd. All remaining tickets will then go on sale to the general public starting on Friday, August 5th. For further details and as-yet-unannounced tour information, please visit www.deathcabforcutie.com.
Death Cab for Cutie has only just embarked on their much-anticipated summer headline tour, set to travel North America through late August. The band has spent much of the past few months on the road, beginning in May with a sold-out tour of intimate venues across North America and followed by a series of European headline dates and festival appearances.
Death Cab for Cutie will celebrate the success of "CODES AND KEYS" with a live performance on CBS' Late Show with David Letterman, slated for September 28th. In addition they will be filming a performance for PBS' "Live from the Artists' Den" in coming weeks to air later this year.
In other news, Death Cab for Cutie has set "Stay Young, Go Dancing" as the next single from "CODES AND KEYS" - full details will be announced shortly. Meanwhile, "You Are A Tourist," the album's first single, has proven a multi-format radio smash, reaching No 1 at both Triple A and Modern Rock outlets nationwide - DCFC's first-ever No 1 at the latter format. What's more, the "You Are A Tourist" companion video has just received a 2011 MTV Video Music Awards nomination for "Best Art Direction." Directed by award-winning filmmaker Tim Nackashi (TV On The Radio, OK Go, Elvis Costello, Radiohead), and conceptualized by frequent collaborator Aaron Stewart-Ahn, the clip is the first-ever live, scripted, single-take music video to be broadcast as it was filmed. "You Are A Tourist" is airing now at www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkk5wViJo-I, where it has already logged close to 2 million views.
"CODES AND KEYS" entered the Billboard 200 at No 3 upon its May release. In addition to its popular success, the album has also received critical praise from a wide array of national publications, including Spin, Rolling Stone, Blackbook, Time Out New York, Interview, Filter, the New York Times, and Entertainment Weekly, which declared the album to be "a reminder to the rest of the pretty-rock community that loveliness is worthless if there's no heart behind it, and Death Cab's beats stronger than most."
Death Cab for Cutie is: Ben Gibbard: guitars, keyboards, vocals * Chris Walla: guitars, keyboards * Nick Harmer: bass * Jason McGerr: drums.
