NEW YORK, NY (Top40 Charts/ Atlantic Records) Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen recording group
Gym Class Heroes has announced plans for a major North American tour. The dates - which see the alternative hip-hop superstars co-headlining alongside The
Dirty Heads - will kick off on October 12th at Tampa, Florida's Jannus Landing and then continue through mid-November (see itinerary below).
A ticket pre-sale will begin on Thursday, August 18, and public on-sales will take place on Friday and Saturday, August 19 and 20, with the date varying by city. In addition to general tickets, Gym Class Heroes will offer fans a special package which will include early entry, a pre-order of THE PAPERCUT CHRONICLES II, a Gym Class Heroes t-shirt and autographed tour poster, and a commemorative VIP laminate in addition to the ticket. For more information, visit the band's website, www.gymclassheroes.com.
The tour heralds Gym Class Heroes' hugely anticipated new album, "THE PAPERCUT CHRONICLES II," which is slated for release October 25. The album's first single, "Stereo Hearts (Feat. Adam Levine)," is quickly proving a summertime pop smash with top 25 airplay at CHR/Top 40 radio outlets nationwide (including such influential stations as New York's Z100 and Miami's Y100). Produced by Benny Blanco (Katy Perry, Wiz Khalifa, Ke$ha), the track is on sale now via iTunes and all leading DSPs.
The "Stereo Hearts" companion video clip - directed by Hiro Murai (Lupe Fiasco, Bloc Party, B.o.B) - premiered worldwide last week across all MTV platforms and VH1.com, and broadcast over the weekend on VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown (check local listings). What's more, the track's lyric video is streaming now at Fueled By Ramen's official YouTube channel (located at www.youtube.com/user/FueledByRamen) where it has already drawn more than 5 million views.
"Stereo Hearts (Feat. Adam Levine)" is also drawing extensive critical acclamation, with Entertainment Weekly praising its "languid, well-bronzed hook." Billboard extolled frontman Travie McCoy's "clever verses" and Levine's "poignant hook," going on to hail the "upbeat love song" as "something unique." Rolling Stone applauded McCoy's "skill at pop that floats between styles," declaring "Stereo Hearts" to be "a little bit hip-hop, a little bit disco, a little bit dark-synched club music."
Gym Class Heroes - who recently performed "Stereo Hearts" with Levine on NBC's blockbuster singing competition, The Voice - are currently on the road as one of the top acts headlining Vans Warped Tour '11. The Geneva, New York-based band will also be among the stars performing at the eagerly awaited FBR15 series of multi-artist concerts at New York City's Terminal 5. The shows, which celebrate Fueled By Ramen's 15th anniversary, are slated for September 7th through 9th, with Gym Class Heroes scheduled to perform alongside Sublime With Rome, The Stereo, and Recover on September 8th. With their alternative hip-hop style and use of live instruments in favor of looped samples and canned beats, Gym Class Heroes caught the ear of Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, who immediately signed the group to his Decaydance imprint and released their Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen debut, 2005's "THE PAPERCUT CHRONICLES." The Geneva, NY-based group spent much of the next two years on the road, including a now-legendary stint on Vans Warped Tour '06 which had them playing two sets a day to euphoric audiences across North America.
"AS CRUEL AS SCHOOL CHILDREN" arrived in 2006 and quickly catapulted GCH to international superstardom via the No 1 blockbuster hit, "Cupid's Chokehold/Breakfast In America." The track was a multiple chart-topping crossover smash, earning RIAA platinum while also driving "AS CRUEL AS SCHOOL CHILDREN" to gold certification for sales exceeding 500,000.
Gym Class Heroes followed up their breakthrough success with 2008's "THE QUILT," featuring such extraordinary collaborators as Busta Rhymes, Daryl Hall and the band's longtime friend and collaborator, Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. The album received critical hosannas from an array of national publications, including Alternative Press, which awarded the album four-and-a-half stars and hailed it as "a sampler of styles (sweet reggae, early-'90s rap, blissful punk-pop) where every square makes sense."
In 2010, GCH's mainman Travie McCoy unleashed his genre-busting, groundbreaking solo debut album, "LAZARUS," and immediately earned another colossal crossover hit single in "Billionaire (Feat. Bruno Mars)." The 2x RIAA platinum-certified track proved one of the year's defining singles and an unqualified multi-format phenomenon, drawing a cumulative audience in excess of 1 billion.
