New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Cosmic Nomads Official Website) Alternative rock band Cosmic Nomads will do a showcase performance at 4 on the 4loor
Victoria Hotel
Orange on Saturday 1st October along with 3 other local acts.
Cosmic Nomads is a new
Orange based band that was originally formed in Sydney in 2003 by song writer Ray Vanderby. The band released a single and album both titled Make Love Not War in 2004 which gained national radio airplay. Ray found it difficult to keep the line up together because the bass player Michael Smith lived in Katoomba, the drummer and guitarist Wayne Davison and Rod Brogan were both from Newcastle and Ray was in Sydney. So Ray decided to move to Melbourne in 2006 which had a more robust live rock music scene. He quickly formed a 2nd line up which recorded and released the 2nd album titled Vultress to rave reviews in the northern hemisphere. In 2007 the band's 3rd line up and album
Millennium was released as they toured
Victoria from Euroa to Warrnambool to Melbourne venues atThe Esplanade Hotel St. Kilda, Cornish Arms Hotel Brunswick, The
National Geelong and other inner city venues. The band also appeared on C31 TV Asylum music show and Noise TV along with their film clips shown on ABC TV music show Rage.
Due to personal reasons and the Melbourne heat Ray Vanderby moved back to
Orange in 2008 where he grew up and took a break from Cosmic Nomads. But in June 2011 he decided to teach himself guitar after playing keyboards professionally all his musical life. He soon wrote 10 songs and through networking with local musicians formed a new
Orange version of Cosmic Nomads which features Ray Vanderby - guitar/vocals, Caillan Gilbert - guitar, Mick Swift - bass, Steve Dickie - drums. The band is due to record the 4th Cosmic Nomads album mid October then they are booked to perform in Sydney at the Valve Bar on Sunday 20th November for the their first Sydney show in 7 years. Ray says the new line up is influenced by
Black Sabbath,
Foo Fighters and
Led Zeppelin and is indicative of the Australian heavy alternative rock sound.
