Boston, MA (Top40 Charts/ Metavania Music) Instrumental metal band VOMITRON has officially released their second full-length album, "No NES For The Wicked", on
September 20, 2011. Unlike their self-titled debut, which contained original songs, "No NES For The Wicked" is a video game music remix album. It features over an hour of metalized interpretations of original Nintendo Entertainment
System game soundtracks, including Castlevania,
Double Dragon, Contra, and The Legend Of Zelda.
Hailing from Massachusetts, USA, VOMITRON's sole member is
Peter Rutcho (GRAVEHEART, FROZEN, ARMORY, ANGELDUST). Every song on "No NES For The Wicked" was arranged, performed, engineered, mixed, and mastered by
Peter Rutcho for
Damage Productions. One unique feature that distinguishes the way VOMITRON covers video game songs is the arrangements. Unlike most video game remixes, which contain only selected levels from games or are dramatically altered, VOMITRON remains true to the original compositions. As
Peter states:
"Frankly I didn't like the way a lot of video game 'bands' were adding all this flair and improv to the songs. I mean, I'll be the first one to tell someone that a cover isn't a cover if it's done exactly the way the original is. Where's the fun in that? However with these NES games that we all loved from our childhood, I wanted to do EXACTLY that and be a little bit of a hypocrite while I'm at it. F**k it. ORIGINAL tempos, the original mechanical / computery feel, original melodies and rhythms all intact. If I couldn't play it, I rehearsed it a bazillion times until I could. Okay okay okay, yeah I DID improv a B3 solo at the end of
Ninja Gaiden, but that's IT."
The most notable differences between the original 8-bit chiptune versions and the "No NES For The Wicked" versions are the use of heavy metal instruments and the complexity of the drums. In his own words,
Peter explains why he chose to interpret the songs in a metal format:
"No NES came from loving metal, loving the songs and melodies from the games, and realizing that the music from the games (very much 80's based) had a strong heavy metal undercurrent to it. Anyone can see that hahaha... And the reason I was able to fit all these genres in there was because that's what I heard when envisioning it metal-clad, so to speak. Why do ya think games like Super
Mario Bros WEREN'T on there? Hahaha."
