SAN FRANCISCO, CA. (Top40 Charts) Green Day debuted a new track on Tuesday night, this time closer to their hometown at the Mezzanine theater in San Francisco. They performed the new track 'Carpe Diem', which is 'about fucking being alive, every single one of us,' says lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong as way of introducing 'Carpe Diem,' (which we all learned from 'Dead Poet's Society' is Latin for 'seize the day).
'Carpe diem, a battle cry / Aren't we all too young to die / Ask for reason, and no reply / Aren't we all too young to die,' sings Armstrong.
The pop punkers have previously said that their new ninth studio album will move away from the concepts of their last two records 'American Idiot' and '21st Century Breakdown' and be more straightforward. The track, which is more reminiscent of the band's material on their 1997 album 'Nimrod', certainly suggests that this will be the case.
The band debuted a full 15 new tracks, including 'Carpe Diem', during a last minute show at the Tiki Bar 1700 Placentia in Costa Mesa, California earlier this summer. Other new tracks aired at that show included 'Nuclear Family', '8th Avenue Seranade' and Amy Winehouse tribute track 'Amy'.
Green Day's last release was a live album titled 'Awesome As Fuck' earlier this year.
