NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Fueled By Ramen Records) fun. has announced the upcoming release of their eagerly awaited album: "SOME NIGHTS" arrives in stores and at all digital retailers on February 21st, 2012.
Having earned widespread acclaim with their 2009 debut album, "AIM AND IGNITE," fun. decided to raise the stakes with this album, their first on Fueled By Ramen, by teaming with noted producer Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Drake). A behind-the-scenes look at the making of "SOME NIGHTS" is streaming now at Complex.com (www.complex.com/music/2011/08/first-look-fun-hits-the-studio-with-watch-the-throne-producer-jeff-bhasker).
The first single from "SOME NIGHTS," "We Are Young (Feat. Janelle Monáe)," is available now via all digital retailers. The single has already generated quite a buzz, hitting the top 3 on The Hype Machine music blog aggregator in its first week of release, not to mention the top 5 on iTunes' "Top Alternative Songs" sales ranking. What's more, "We Are Young" has received major airplay from KCRW's influential Morning Becomes Eclectic, while USA Today applauded the "baroque indie-popsters" for "(making) a counterintuitive play for the big time, slowing down for the massive sing-along chorus."
The band will launch a preorder for a limited edition 7" vinyl version of the single on November 28 through the Fueled By Ramen webstore, https://store.fueledbyramen.com/, which will also unveil the song "One Foot" from "SOME NIGHTS" as the b-side.
A companion video clip for "We Are Young" is currently in pre-production. A video of fun. performing an acoustic version of the song with Janelle Monáe is up on the band's site, www.ournameisfun.com.
Tomorrow will see fun. celebrating the imminent arrival of "SOME NIGHTS" with a sold-out hometown headline show at New York's Bowery Ballroom. The critically acclaimed indie pop combo will then cross the country for an equally sold-out Los Angeles appearance, slated for November 14th at the world famous Troubadour.
The bi-coastal headline dates follow fun.'s recent 15-city trek supporting their "We Are Young" collaborator, Janelle Monáe, who has nothing but the highest praise for her tourmates, hailing the band as "incredible musicians."
"Nate Ruess' voice is legendary," Monáe added. "Their music is special. To watch fun. is to perhaps watch the renaissance of Queen mixed with their own fresh approach to music."
fun. began in 2008 when Nate Ruess teamed up with Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff to meld an array of diverse inspirations into their own irresistible and freewheeling pop songcraft. The band drew immediate attention for their contemporary rethinking of classic 70s pop, where ornate arrangements and inspired orchestrations meet present-day rock 'n' roll. Fit to burst with richly prolix lyricism and intricate melodic twists and turns, "AIM AND IGNITE" earned copious critical praise: Paste praised their "bubbly, pop-synth songs," while The Huffington Post noted that "(fun. has) been quite on a roll since the release of their well-received debut." The band built upon this formula for "SOME NIGHTS," working with producer Jeff Bhasker to evolve their sound by marrying their robust melodies with elements of hip-hop.
The band followed the album's release with a series of well-received live appearances, including numerous headline dates and show-stopping performances at such gatherings as 2011's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.
