LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts) Van Halen has signed to Interscope Records! According to the Hollywood Reporter, which wrote that Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine was personally involved with the negotiations with Van Halen, and quoted an "insider" as saying, "He heard the band was available and wanted to work with them. It was decided at the eleventh hour." The deal reportedly includes touring, merchandising, marketing and recording
The new deal reportedly includes touring, merchandising, marketing and recording.
Van Halen were expected to sign with Columbia Records but the deal was doomed simply because singer David Lee Roth wanted to sign with a West Coast-based label. 'He was never on board [with Columbia],' the source revealed. 'It was as complicated as anyone would imagine, when one side says black, the other says white. The label was pretty skeptical that things would work out.'
Van Halen is expected to make a special announcement at the Grammy Nominations Concert Live, set to air on CBS on Nov. 30. A rep for Interscope was not available for comment at press time.
Jump and Dance The Night Away are Van Halen hits. After Roth's departure in 1984, the band made four studio albums with Sammy Hagar and sold millions. "Van Halen III," with former Extreme singer Gary Cherone, failed to go Platinum.
The band reunited with Roth for tours in 2007 and 2008.
