Rhino Remasters Grateful Dead Vinyl LP's At Bernie Grundman's

New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Bernie Grundman Mastering) Rhino Records booked the cutting room at Bernie Grundman Mastering for the vinyl reissue of the Grateful Dead's 3 LP Europe '72 album. Rhino's Media Asset Supervisor Charles Benson joined mastering engineer Chris Bellman in the disc cutting studio to cut lacquers from the original 1/4" analog stereo masters.

"These original master tapes play remarkably well," says mastering engineer Chris Bellman. "The engineering is actually quite good. I discovered that I only needed to make two or three EQ changes for the whole record set. The sound is very consistent and only needed a little low end bump, the high end needed a little bit of embellishment, and then some overall de-essing for the entire project."

In addition to the Grateful Dead, Rhino has worked with engineer Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering for the vinyl reissues of ZZ Top, Ramones, and other classic rock groups.

The Grateful Dead formed in 1965 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The band was known for its unique and eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, country, improvisational jazz, and psychedelia, and for live performances of extended musical improvisation.
