New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ RoadRunner Records) Rush is one of this year's recipients of the Governor General's Performing Arts Award in Canada. The prizes were awarded yesterday in Calgary. In addition to a commemorative medallion struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, the band will also receive a $25,000 cash prize. It's great to see such a hard-working group rewarded at last. Now, what's the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame waiting for?
In other Rush news, the band has sent a cease and desist letter to radio personality Rush Limbaugh, demanding that he stop using their song "The Spirit of Radio" on his show. The letter reads in part, "the use of Rush's music in this manner implies an endorsement of the views expressed and products advertised on the show, and is in breach of not only copyright and trademark rights, but also, of section 51 of the New York Civil Rights Law … Accordingly, we hereby demand that you immediately stop all use of Rush's music and confirm that you will do so."
Rush's next studio album, Clockwork Angels, will be released later this year.
