Munich, Germany (Top40 Charts/ Deep Jazz Official Website) The group Deep Jazz recorded its second album in a new exciting nonet formation. Leader and bassplayer Jerker Kluge wrote nine completely new compositions for the group, chose two classics of the genre for a new interpretation and arranged the material for the new exceptional and very special line-up.
Very special indeed are the two voice vocals, performed by singer Julia Fehenberger and pianist/vocalist
Andrea Hermenau, the horn section (flute/alto, tenor and bass-clarinet) as well as the concert harp, an instrument seldom used in jazz, that adds a really special flavour to the recording. Together with the rhythm section and additional percussion the band features a unique line-up.
The musical core is the spiritual and modal jazz from the golden era of jazz in the 1960ies, but of course Kluge´s own musical ideas and influences are added, creating a very special musical cosmos, that is additionally spiced by the individual talents of the involved musicians.
"I´m really excited to be featured on the Jazz Network Worldwide and I hope that my music can find a way to music lovers worldwide! I appreciate your listening and your feedback!" states Jerker Kluge.
The group offers the highly praised track 'Little Sunflower' (written by Freddie Hubbard / Leon Thomas) as a free download on their website https://www.deepjazz.org.
The first album 'Heaven & Earth' (Perfect Toy 2009) was played in radio stations around the world and celebrated by jazz fans and critics everywhere: "These guys really blew us away with their debut, and we're loving them even more this time around and can honestly say that they're one of the few contemporary combos to ever get our favorite sounds of the 70's just right, that magical music that came out on labels like Strata East and other small indies of the time, that post Coltrane generation when musicians really stretched their skills to the heavens in search of new sounds!" says a review from dustygroove.com.
Jerker Kluge is well known in the international jazz scene for a long time with his other distinct projects as 'The Hi-Fly Orchestra', 'Hipnosis' or 'Bad Jazz Troupe'.
He is one of the few bass players in the tradition of Charles Mingus, who see their own role not only as a supporting player but as a composer and innovator with a strong, unique voice.
He is influenced by artists like John and Alice Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Roland Kirk, Grachan Moncur, Sam Rivers, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Pharoah Sanders, Eric Dolphy and McCoy Tyner.
"The Meeting is the amazing second album from Deep Jazz - and every bit as spiritual and soulful as the first. The arrangements, production, and execution are wonderful!"
