New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) After thrilling crowds at SXSW, 23-year-old John Fullbright has confirmed the May 8 release of his debut album 'From the Ground Up' (Blue Dirt/Thirty Tigers) and a national spring tour, including shows in Los Angeles on May 10 and New York on May 17 (full schedule below). Hailing from Woody Guthrie's hometown of Okemah, Oklahoma, Fullbright displays a similar distrust of power and singular voice. At SXSW, the
Chicago Sun-Times called his performance "as perfect as if it were a Jonathan Demme concert film."

Fullbright played many of the instruments on 'From The Ground Up' - piano, harmonica, organ, and guitar - and co-produced the album with Wes Sharon (Gregg Allman, the Doobie Brothers). The powerful "Jericho" channels tent-revival gospel for a modern-day traveler's parable, while "Fat Man" brings in Kurt Weill vaudeville to assail abuses of power by the folks holding the purse strings. And though Fullbright is joking when he refers to the sardonic "Gawd Above" as "Sympathy for the Creator," he delivers heart-wrenching sincerity when describing the bond between parents and children on "Song for a Child."
Fullbright started playing piano as a five-year old in the same house where his father grew up (pictured on the album cover), and later picked up the guitar. Legendary Oklahoma venue the Blue Door became his second home, where he opened for artists like Joe Ely and Jimmy Webb, and soon sold out his own headlining shows.
