Music has announced the signing of Omaha, Nebraska rap group Block Movement and the release of their upcoming album, "N.A.F.T.A.", which is slated to drop later this year. Block Movement, which consists of members Latin Threat (born Joshua Bates), Stylo (born Rolando Valadez), and S. Gats (born
Kevin Fredericks), is the founding act on the Midwest imprint of Thizz Latin.
Block Movement will announce the signing and debut their new single, "Smoker's Ball", on Omaha's leading radio station, Power 106.9 FM (KOPW), on May 13 and will perform the song for the first time live at a pair of shows the weekend of May 18 locally and in Sioux City, Iowa, where they will join
Texas rapper Lucky Luciano, who originally introduced the group to Thizz Latin CEO
Julio "Goldtoes" Sanchez and lead to the formation of Thizz Latin Midwest.
Block Movement was brought to the attention of Block Starz executives by their manager
David "Cin'atra" Lee of Deep Groove Entertainment.
"They presented a great opportunity to us through our manager," says Block Movement's unofficial spokesman and leader Latin Threat, who founded the group with partner Stylo in 2003. "I've known Cin'atra for years and our relationship made it easy to sign with Deep Groove for management and make the move to Block Starz for distribution and marketing."
In addition to an aggressive street campaign and touring schedule to promote the release of "N.A.F.T.A.", which takes its name from the North American Free Trade Agreement signed by Canada, Mexico, and the United States in 1994 to create the world's largest trade bloc, Block Movement has released the first in a series of webisodes on YouTube, called "Da Block Report", to document the project's recording and promotion.
Confirmed guest appearances for "N.A.F.T.A." include San Francisco rapper Berner, who recently joined Block Starz
Music affiliate Wiz Khalifa's roster at Taylor Gang, and label mate Lega-C ("White Girl Raps Fast").
