New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Graysmiths Official Website) Recorded in the Gray Matter Studio in Mississippi, These Bones is the debut album from The Graysmiths, available in digital and CD formats from the 29th June, via iTunes and Amazon. The album honours the traditions of the Southern Blues scene (Blues Hall of Fame nominee Big Joe Shelton lends his harp to the album) while offering a contemporary originality and energy that straddles the greatest rock sounds.
Lead singer and songwriter, Joshua Gray, a 6'5 native Mississippian, likes old fashioned things, and after travelling the world making friends and fans returned to his home town to record These Bones, an undertaking that took three years: 'People don’t put enough time or attention into things any-more, it’s all about quicker and cheaper, something always suffers,' says Joshua. 'Having played tons of rock and jazz I wanted to get back to my roots and make something honest that represents me and where I come from.'
The record is centred around an arched top guitar in open C tuning. 'A good friend of mine was in the studio playing it one day, as I had tucked away not using it, and he left it in that tuning. I’d not played too much slide guitar before that and thought it was worth going for that sound as it represents my home state well.'
