LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ MSO PR) Leading up to July 4, this summer season is hitting the fast lane with a new PAUL VAN DYK(PvD) single "
The Ocean" which teams him up with Russia's Arty. Released today, Monday, July 2 via Beatport, the track—also accompanied by mixes by Las Salinas and Eddie Bitar—is just as deep and expansive as its title suggests and is taken from EVOLUTION (VANDIT), PvD's acclaimed sixth studio album. "
The Ocean" is distilled, epic trance magnificence. View its accompanying video here.
"
The Ocean"'s predecessors "
Verano" roared and "
Eternity" soared, but now dive deep into single #3 from legendary sound designer and all-around audiologist, PAUL VAN DYK. Together with one of the hottest young EDM talents to rise in recent years, he and Arty have crafted a musical work that is iridescent, mesmeric and über-inviting. From the mellow drama of its classical piano lead to its thermally immersive sub-melodies and unshakably aquatic ambience, the track is set off against the diffused haunt and lamenting ache of its longing "nightime" vocal. Its snare-free breaks, tough tech-trance drop-backs and bigger room bass endlessly wow the floor.
"I met Arty in Russia sometime in 2010 and we talked at that point about making music together. That has led to two tracks on the album. On 'The Ocean,' I was sent over some strings and sequence patterns, which I was really feeling. I then came back in with other elements and it turned into this big back-and-forth mechanism," says PvD of the collaboration. "Arty brought the topline, which is really harmonic and angelic and we used it really more like an instrument than a vocal. We both felt very strong about the parts that had gone in and I then took it and began to properly produce it."
"
The Ocean" has been making waves with the dance press of late:
"The unhurried tempo, piano-tinging lamentation and heaven-sent female vocal all combine to produce something very special indeed." — DJ Mag
"…with its melodic colours badged firmly on its sleeve, ('The Ocean's) pacific chords & pads, so-gorgeous-it-hurts piano and angelic, swallow-you-up vocal are all the mind focuses on." — MixMag
"Trance's past and future team up to give us 'The Ocean,' a gorgeous, operatic trance banger that emphatically proves that beauty and bass can happily coexist. The best trance tracks make you feel weightless. This is one of them." — Dancing Astronaut
