Music Empowers Foundation announced today that platinum-selling recording artist and American Idol winner,
Kris Allen will be playing a live online concert at 8:30 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, July 18th. Half of all concert proceeds will go to benefit the
Music Empowers Foundation, a nonprofit that provides grants and other support for music education programs in underdeveloped communities.
The concert will be streamed online by StageIt, a website where performers can broadcast directly from a computer, anywhere in the world. Fans decide how much they want to pay to buy a ticket to "attend" the concert. To encourage his fans to help him raise funds for
Music Empowers,
Kris Allen will be awarding prizes for the highest paid entries, including autographed photos and copies of his most recent album, "
Thank You Camellia" on CD and vinyl. The top three donors will join Mr. Allen for a private post-concert Q&A and the debut of a brand new song.
"Kris Allen is one of the music industry's biggest supporters of music education for kids and this concert is just the latest example of what he is doing to help," said Andy Davis, Founder of
Music Empowers Foundation. "Kris really understands the important role music education can play in changing the trajectory of a kid's life."
Music Empowers and
Kris Allen have partnered frequently in the past to support and raise funds for music education. Most recently, they joined forces to provide funding via DonorsChoose.org for over 225 classroom music education projects which are benefiting an estimated 47,000 grade and middle school students. The two have additional projects planned for later this summer.

Since winning American Idol in 2009,
Kris Allen has become a household name. After releasing his self-titled debut album in 2009 on 19 Recordings/Jive Records, Kris toured the U.S. opening for Keith Urban, Maroon 5, the Barenaked Ladies, and Lifehouse, as well as headlining his own club tour. His first single, "
