LOS ANGELES (Ozo Official Website) - Ozomatli, who today was nominated for a Latin GRAMMY Award for the 2003 EP "Coming Up" (Best Alternative Rock Album of the Year), will kick off their U.S. STREET SIGNS "ROCK PRENDIDO" tour August 5th in Anaheim, followed by 22 stops in cities across the US, including NYC, Washington, and San Diego.
Presented by Coors Light and House of Blues, Rock Prendido winds up on the west coast with dates in Sacramento, Las Vegas and at Los Angeles's Universal Amphitheatre - Ozo's biggest headlining date ever. Monterrey, Mexico's Plastalina Mosh and electronic rockers Kinky, along with Austin's Del Castillo will join them in concert, along with a full bandwagon of non-profit organizations including Rock the Vote, Refuse and Resist, Move On, Amnesty International, Not in Our Name and Code Pink.
Ozomatli are a multi-racial crew who have never been shy about their commitment to social justice, progressive politics, and anti-war convictions. They believe, "Music is the key to every culture, the beginning of an understanding," says the band's trumpet player and co-vocalist Asdru Sierra. "For us, music is a language far more universal than politics," but the band feels it is important to offer their tour as platform in an effort to inspire and educate their fans in this election year.
Ozomatli's audience is a rainbow coalition of music fans, and the wide rage of their appeal is apparent with the debut at No 2 of their STREET SIGNS album on both the Billboard New Artist Chart and the Billboard Latin chart. STREET SIGNS, the band's first new studio album in three years, has excited fans and critics alike.
The WASHINGTON POST said "Street Signs" is the sound of a dozen different forms of music blasting from car stereos and mingling in the air... It's a microcosm of 21st-century America, a 50-minute travelogue through our back yards and barrios.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY went on to add "If the U.N. needs a house band, Ozo's the act to call" while DAILY VARIETY said of their live show, "Ozomatli does it effortlessly, throwing the kind of party most bands dream about while never undermining its all-encompassing spirit of unity."
"Street Signs" is both a mature testament to the band's nearly decade-long evolution and a fresh, dance floor-rocking reminder of their commitment to creating original music in the face of industry conservatism. They'll be brining it to the road in September.
