NEW YORK (PBS Network) - The national music concert series, SOUNDSTAGE will feature Grammy-winning artist, Cyndi Lauper on Thursday, August 5 on PBS (check local listings).

During this episode of SOUNDSTAGE, Lauper, the punky New York princess who just wanted to have fun in the '80s, revels in her reincarnation as a matured woman who proves she can add honesty to such classic standards as those featured on her most recent release, At Last. From the album's title cut, to somber serenades like "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and "Walk on By," Lauper elevates the audience with a revealing candor, an impressive range and a pensive sense for interpretation. She also takes us back to her beginnings as one of the biggest stars of the early MTV era, whose unique voice and distinctive image helped popularize punk and new wave in the American pop landscape. Throughout fun flashbacks of hits like "Time After Time," "True Colors," Money Changes Everything," and of course, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun," Lauper has the audience dancing on their chairs.

SOUNDSTAGE made its triumphant return to PBS with a new state-of-the-art makeover in July of 2003 and celebrated a highly successful first season featuring performances by Tori Amos, Chicago, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Michael McDonald, Lyle Lovett, Randy Newman, Trace Adkins, Amy Grant and many more. The series originally aired from 1974 to 1985 with widespread critical praise for its pioneering concert-format programs.

In June 2004, SOUNDSTAGE returned for a second season with 13 brand new, one-hour episodes. In addition to Lauper, the new season includes performances by Fleetwood Mac, Burt Bacharach, Sheryl Crow, Counting Crows, Ronald Isley, Kris Kristofferson, Shelby Lynne, Lisa Marie Presley, Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts featuring Russell Crowe and more!
SOUNDSTAGE is funded in part by The Progressive Group of companies. Committed to making auto insurance easier to shop for, buy and own.

SOUNDSTAGE is taped from Chicago's WTTW11's 10,000 square foot Grainger Studio, using high-definition video equipment and is digitally recorded and mixed in Dolby 5.1 surround sound. Soundstage is a co-production of WTTW National Productions & HD Ready Producer/Director: Joe Thomas/HDReady. Executive Producer: Randy King/WTTW National Productions. Line Producer: Nicolette Ferri/WTTW National Productions.
