Toronto, ON (Top40 Charts/ Skylar Entertainment) It's that time again, Indie Week, Toronto's infamous alternative music festival is taking over the streets of Toronto from October 10-14 2012. Indie Week is all about the music, giving the underdogs a chance to get out there and show the world what their made of. For The Maladies of Adam Stokes, this is just the beginning.
The Maladies of Adam Stokes started off as a group of friends jamming out to their favourite songs using cigarette lighters for slides and hoarse singing voices. Today, they've formed a solid fan base by consistently producing and publishing new music in essence of their influencers, such as Attack in
Black and Constantines.
Since forming, The Maladies have extended their reach from back-alley clubs to sold-out shows at legendary venues like The Horseshoe Tavern and Lee's Palace. Their first EP, Oro-Medonte, was recorded live off the floor and showed the tenacity and emotion this band had to offer. The following year was spent refining songs for their follow-up EP Wood Water War which has a sample of three songs from their upcoming full-length album to hit this fall City of Trees.
Their sets are composed by Michael Hill, guitar and lead vocals, Kohji Nagata, who traded in a make-shift slide for a multi-instrumentalist approach for the electric and slide guitars, trumpet and, get this, a glocken-spiel. Oh trust us, it gets better. Josh "Square" Awerbuck is the lead guitarist, who is quite tenacious with his guitar solos.
Brett Harris who literally just picked up the bass for the first time in order to join The Maladies. Ted Turner, who made the transition from an aspiring sound engineer to picking up sticks and becoming the drummer of the band. Then lastly, but certainly not least, the beautiful Emily Anderson, whom is a trained pianist and pub-influenced fiddle player, that adds that touch of flare to give The Maladies that stomp-along tempo.
