Anne McCue To Release Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run"
Nashville, TN (Top40 Charts/ Erica Springer + Associates) Roots Music Association's Folk Artist of the Year Anne McCue is set to release her new single, a folky version of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." Given her unique voice and impressive guitar chops she has been described as a combination of Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, and Susan Tedeschi. Australian native McCue chose Springsteen's anthem to young rebellion because it resonated with the rebellious spirit she possessed as a teenager:

"I first started singing the song over 15 years ago in Melbourne. Even though Springsteen had grown up in New Jersey, USA and I had grown up west of Sydney, Australia, the characters and the mood were the same. To me it was like 'Rumble Fish' and 'The Outsiders.' We were those kids and those kids are in this amazing song. This was, and still is, our song."

McCue's distinctive vocal style showcases the emotion of Springsteen's lyrics. Her version unwraps the rock classic and delivers it as a ballad, plunging deeply into the essence of the song. As McCue explains, "Springsteen captures all the longing in the teenage heart, all the dreams in the teenage mind - the fog of the overwhelming present which tried to steal away the passion of our future and tie us down to an ordinary life. That is what we longed to escape and some of us ran - I know I did. And perhaps I'm still running.."

Her love of music forged in Sydney, Australia, McCue landed in America and performed on the Lilith Fair tour. After setting up shop in Los Angeles, she became a vital part of the city's roots music scene, recording two attention-grabbing albums: 2004's Roll and 2006's Koala Motel.

Both releases garnered critical accolades. Billboard heralded her as the "virtual definition of 'triple threat.' A potent singer, thoughtful songwriter and tough guitarist." Her recent album, Broken Promise Land, showcases McCue's rocking sensibility and six-string virtuosity.

These days, she spends a great deal of time in Nashville, honing her distinctive hybrid style of grassroots rock, blues, and folk. Americana icon Lucinda Williams has said of McCue: "Initially, her stunning voice hooked me in. Then I got inside the songs. The first chance I got, I went to see her perform . . . I was floored!" "Born to Run" exemplifies this symbiosis of voice and song.

The single is available now through Flying Machine Recordings at itunes.com/annemccue, cdbaby.com, annemccue.com
