11th Annual Jazz 4 Justice Concert Creates Unique Partnership Between Education, Music And Law
Fairfax, VA (Top40 Charts / Jazz 4 Justice) The Fairfax Law Foundation and George Mason University Jazz Ensemble will present the 11th Annual Jazz 4 Justice Concert Friday, November 9, 2012 at 8:00 PM in the GMU Center for the Arts Concert Hall. This year's concert will showcase 100 Years of Jazz.

This concert helps fund the Music Scholarship at GMU. The Music Scholarship fund at GMU assists students who would otherwise be unable to graduate without financial aid. Dustin Mollock, a 2009 graduate of the GMU Music Program, said, "Thanks to the scholarship I received from Jazz 4 Justice I was able to complete my degree in Jazz Studies at George Mason University and am now a Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas."

The scholarships made possible by the generous donations of Jazz 4 Justice have also brought a higher level of talent to the Jazz Department as the program has expanded over the years. Students at George Mason look forward to playing for justice at this concert every year. Former 2010 scholarship recipient Joey Neale said, "I look forward to the Jazz 4 Justice concert each year. I didn't realize how my performing could impact others until this concert."

Jazz 4 Justice is truly a unique partnership between education, music, and the legal profession. Jim Carroll, Director of Jazz Studies said that "The partnership between George Mason University and the Fairfax Law Foundation is a tribute to what can be accomplished when we join hands." Over the years, the Jazz 4 Justice has raised more than $150,000 and serves as one of the Fairfax Law Foundation's major sources of funding to operate the Pro Bono Program, programs for victims of domestic violence as well as educational and counseling programs for at-risk teens. This event helps The Fairfax Law Foundation continue its mission to the citizens of Northern Virginia.

Because of Jazz 4 Justice's success, other universities and local bar associations have adopted this unique partnership and fundraising model. Significantly, last year, James Madison University hosted Jazz 4 Justice and Christopher Newport University is scheduled for 2014. This year, the event will also be performed in Prince William County at the Hylton Center for the Performing Arts.

Individual tickets for the concert are $20.00 adults / $15.00 students and seniors. Immediately following the concert, all audience members are invited and encouraged to join in the music making by joining the Post Concert Jam Session. Musicians of all levels are welcome.
