The Beards Win 2012 Emily Burrows Award
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Adelaide rock group The Beards have been awarded the 12thEmily Burrows Award at the Grace Emily Hotel in Adelaide last night.

The $5,000 Award is sponsored by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA). The Award recognises the achievements of and invests in the professional development of emerging original music acts in South Australia.

Over the past five years The Beards have become one of Australia's most popular comedic bands. In between releasing three studio albums, they have toured around Australia and internationally - even performing at the opening ceremony of the World Beards and Moustache Championships in Anchorage, Alaska!

Their hard work has paid off with national tours selling out in all major centres and numerous award nominations, including Song of the Year at the 2012 APRA Music Awards and Best Comedy Album at the 2012 ARIA Awards. Now, they can add the 2012 Emily Burrows Award to their burgeoning list of achievements.

Previous winners of the Emily Burrows Award have included Melody Feder (2011), The Touch (2010), Poetikool Justice (2009), The Fiddle Chicks (2008), Huckleberry Swedes (2007), Mere Theory (2006), Pharaohs (2005), Foreshore (2004), Special Patrol (2003), Hilltop Hoods (2002) and Gone to Earth (2001).

The Emily Burrows Award was instituted in 2001 in memory of Emily Burrows, a former APRA membership representative and compliance officer, who worked tirelessly to support and encourage South Australian songwriters and composers. The Award was established following her tragic, accidental death in 2000.
