Laguna Beach, CA (Top40 Charts) An epic odyssey of love, romance and passion set to exquisite orchestral compositions with lyrics sung in a new language, innovative composer, producer and musician
David Arkenstone has reinvented himself yet again on "Lovéren," which will be released March 5th on the artist's own QDV Recordings, which is distributed by MRI/Sony RED. The three-time Grammy nominee collaborated with
Charlee Brooks, an operatically-gifted singer who gave voice to the 9-track collection sung in Mermish, to conceive the vividly-realized mermaid love story that will be performed as a lavish live production overseen by award-winning producer
Victoria Paige Meyerink on March 16th at the landmark Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA.
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of his recording career that spans more than 30 albums, film and television soundtracks and video game scores, Arkenstone regularly ventures into audacious musical territories, but "Lovéren" is a fantastical new voyage exploring the depths of romantic love with a mermaid. He commissioned Steven Vlasak to write the original story of "Lovéren" that is told in a gorgeously designed 16-page CD booklet. Then Arkenstone composed the music by exploring his vast musical palette, including sprawling philharmonic pieces performed by a full string section, ethereal New Age nuances, ethnically diverse world music rhythms and instrumentation, and the mass appeal and accessibility of sophisticated pop melodies. Brooks was moved to craft lyrics and melodies based upon emotions and aquatic communication, which led to the invention of the Mermish language. The Nashville Soul Choir lent celestial voices to the tracks.
"Creating 'Lovéren' was a magical experience inspired by my desire to create a symphonic, cinematic album with more singing than usual, and the desire to work with
Charlee (Brooks), who's a wonderful vocalist and writer. The two of us happened to be on a dolphin-watching cruise with a few musician friends, and we were all just playing our instruments and talking about mermaids and music, and the album idea took shape organically. It was nice to have
Charlee as a partner on this project because we share the same goal: to take people on a musical adventure and then gently set them back on earth at the end. We inspired each other and created music that transcends what either of us would be able to accomplish on our own and it gave me the opportunity to reinvent myself as an artist yet again. The originality of the project turned out to be vitally important," said Arkenstone, who plays guitars, keyboards, bass, mandolin, flute, cello, drums, percussion and other instruments on his recordings. "'Lovéren' may be able to reach a lot more people than I've reached before because it has vocals as part of its foundation. Many of the songs are sung in Mermish, a new language that
Charlee was inspired to create to illustrate the story so you feel those emotions. It's wonderful because it's universal. Everyone can understand it because it's based on pure emotion."
A self-proclaimed rocker and musical storyteller who forged an award-winning career for his unique brand of grandiose music, Arkenstone released his debut album, "Valley in the Clouds," in 1987. His compositions are inspired by travel and adventure, and are a fusion of state of the art technology and fully orchestrated acoustic instrumentation. Arkenstone's living legacy is a deep and diverse catalogue of pioneering New Age classics, authentic Celtic collections, exotic world beat recordings, experimental electronic meditations, and visionary sonicscapes that spawned 20 albums that hit the Billboard charts. He has composed and recorded original music for audiences as varied as NBC's Olympics and Triple Crown horseracing broadcasts, best-selling video game "World of Warcraft" and Renaissance faires. The
Chicago reared Los Angeles-area resident has toured the world performing for millions of fans in historic venues that include
Radio City
