Old School Bare Knuckle Chicago Blues CD Chosen By The Blues Foundation's 'Best Self-produced CD Award' Finalist, Launches Traditionalists Into Global Blues Spotlight
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Blues Foundation announced the debut album 'Fourteen Stories' by Red Lotus Revue of Blues Lovers United of San Diego as one of five finalists chosen from approximately eighty submissions from blues societies around the globe. A win will be the third CD from Blues Lovers United of San Diego in the nine years joining Sue Palmer (2008) and Nathan James and Ben Hernandez (2009). Other winners hailed from OR, CO, RI, NC (x2), NY and CA.

Earlier this month the Red Lotus Revue was labeled "A very tight band" by Elwood Blues (aka Dan Aykroyd) and the Orange County Register touted the band's "outstanding musicianship." Midwest Record described them as creating "Classic flavored blues that never comes across less than the real thing."

The Red Lotus Revue consists of the songwriting duo of Karl Cabbage (vocals and harmonica) and Jimmy Zollo (guitar) with Pete Fazzinni also on guitars and Kurt Kalker on drums. Fourteen Stories is self-produced and recorded in Kalker's Red Light Sessions studio. As Michael Kinsman, critic for Blues Revue and the San Diego Union Tribune writes, "Red Lotus is a band whose strength comes knowing what it wants to do and each member executing that precisely. A great example of what a band can be."

Despite Fourteen Stories being a debut, all band members have participated in the annual International Blues Competition finals in Memphis, Tenn. Karl and Pete won the 'Best Blues Award' at the 2009 San Diego Music Awards. In its short existence the Red Lotus Revue has made large waves in the community. They now perform at the largest and most exclusive regional events such as 2011 San Diego Blues Festival, 2012 Doheny Blues Festival and twice at Rod Piazza's exclusive Birthday Bash among others.

With Fourteen Stories as a finalist, the rest of the world now realizes what Southern California already knows.

Since 2005 The Blues Foundation has celebrated up and coming artists by bestowing an annual award for the "Best Self-Produced CD" of the year. It is a nascent and exciting award to complement the thirty-three and twenty-nine years of the Blues Music Awards (BMAs) and International Blues Challenge (IBCs) respectively.
