University Of Miami Frost School Of Music Presents Trumpet Master Charles Lazarus
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The University of Miami Frost School of Music presents trumpeter and composer Charles Lazarus as part of the 2012-2013 Stamps Family Distinguished Visitors Series. Lazarus will appear in concert with the Stamps Brass Quintet and Frost Faculty Brass Quintet on February 7 and present a master class on February 8.

Charles Lazarus is an internationally acclaimed performer, composer, and educator known for his distinctive blend of lounge/exotica and funk fired jazz. Lazarus has been a member of the Dallas Brass, Meridian Arts Ensemble, Canadian Brass, and currently the Minnesota Orchestra. He has performed his own compositions live on Radio Canada for the Montreal and Ottawa international jazz festivals, for music videos that have aired nationally on Canadian television, and as an opening act for Tony Bennett. He has been a soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Florida Orchestra, Les Violins du Roy, and the Bach Society among others. He has recorded for television and IMAX film scores, as well as major symphony orchestras and numerous classical, pop and jazz ensembles. Lazarus released his debut solo CD, Solo Settings, in 2005 and followed up with a second recording, Zabava, in 2008.

The free master class by Charles Lazarus will be held at 1:25 p.m. on February 8 in the Victor E. Clarke Recital Hall in the L. Austin Weeks Center for Recording and Performance. Lazarus will discuss cross training for brass and practical advice for multi-faceted jazz and studio professionals and students. Admission is free, but a ticket is required. The Stamps Family Charitable Foundation Distinguished Visitors Series was established a decade ago through the extraordinary vision and generous commitment of E. Roe and Penny Stamps. Annually, the series brings an array of significant artists, scholars and music industry leaders to the Frost School of Music for the educational and artistic enrichment of UM students and the community.
