New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ ISL PR) Teddy Watson has a lot to be excited about. The lead singer and songwriter of the NYC-based band Stargroves is celebrating the success of his very first single "Westfjords" having received a Finalist Award in the 29th Mid-Atlantic Song Contest's Rock/Alternative category. Watson wrote the track last year while living in Reykjavík for three months, immersing himself in the culture of Iceland as inspiration to write the songs for his band's debut CD. "Westfjords," which was released by Stargroves in September 2012, refers to the legendary area where the revered trolls are said to live. The song features Academy Award nominated teen actress Abigail Breslin on back-up vocals.
The good news greeted Watson upon his return from a second visit to Iceland where he shot part of the music video for Stargroves' second single, "Within Me A Lunatic Sings." So dedicated to his art is the young musician that when the script called for him wade into the famed Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon in swim trunks he didn't hesitate despite the below zero temperatures. Other scenes of the video were shot in Mustique in the Grenadines, and New York City. The clip is currently being edited and slated for release within the next few weeks.
That's not the only news: "Westfjords" has also been selected as one of the Top 10 finalist in the 13th Annual NSAI Song Contest, presented by CMT. Fans can listen to and vote for the song, now posted on the NSAI website (https://nsai.cmt.com/). Voting will continue throughout the month of February 2013.
Stargroves' first full album will be released in Spring 2013.
