New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Native American music artists known as The Council have released their debut full-length album, titled "One Tribe One Nation," on the Culture Shock Original record label. In addition to heavy-hitting back beats, sharp-tongued rhymes and incredibly innovative urban-style melodies, "One Tribe One Nation" features an impressive lineup of supporting artists, including Snoop Dogg, The Game, TI, and
George Clinton and Gene Anderson of Parliament Funkadelic. Infused with vision, passion and aggression, "One Tribe One Nation" by The Council is likely the most important record by American Indian rap artists to date.
Made up of young voices Tones, Tre, and Dreezy, The Council has tribe affiliations with the Southern Ute, Jemez Pueblo, Taos Pueblo and Sioux peoples. Nevertheless, according to Reuben Roman of Culture Shock Original records, "They stand with pride and reverence with the whole Native Nation. That very stance is the inspiration for their debut album."
This sentiment is ever-present on the LP, and distinctly so on powerful, dark tracks like "Hold My Head Up" and "Rez Juice."
"They are called The Council," says Roman, "and the message [of the album] is from them. All tribes should unite for the same cause, furthering hope to native nations." This is the motto clearly expressed by the album's title. The Council wholeheartedly believes in the unification of the Native American tribes to create one cohesive native nation.
Though their record boasts endless talent from other sources, "One Tribe..."'s most remarkable attribute remains Tones, Dre and Dreezy, themselves. These three gentlemen spit with venom and rhythm, their lines clever and cutting, their tones exactly right in ways that cannot be imitated. In this their rapping is much like that of earlier artists like Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Slick Rick, and others whose style and delivery were every bit as important as the quality of their poetry. In fact, if the record consisted only of The Council dishing their rhymes without backing beats or music at all, it would still be worth the price of admission.
The Council are winners of Culture Shock Original's Native Rap $25K and Recording Contract Contest. The music of "One Tribe..." includes the talents of Scott Storch, who has produced records by Dr. Dre, Beyonce, 50-Cent, Nelly, Xzibit, Eve, The Roots, Mario, Lil' Kim, Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, The Game, and
