New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Martika's "Love, Thy Will Be Done" (co-penned by Prince) was notoriously known as the singer's foray into lite FM stylings and the same goes for this new cover by Jessie Ware.
Even as she was making her way toward becoming the USA's pre-eminent pop songstress, Ware was garnering comparisons to Sade, who can teeter on the side of adult contemporary, but more for the overlapping sultry textures both women's voices hold. Yet Ware's ability to tug at the heartstrings and the bleeding of new wave nostalgia onto the track squanders any notion of this being Mom Music.
The UK songstress takes on Martika's 1991 pop hit "Love…Thy Will Be Done." Co-written by Prince (yes!), the cool, effortless charm and sentiment of the original fits Ware's style to a T. Listen to it below!
