New York, NY (Top40 Charts / L'Oreal) In 2011, The
Sheepdogs made history when they became the first unsigned band to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone, beating 15 other artists in the magazine's "Choose the Cover" contest.
Now this hard-working band is the focus of a new documentary directed by Kennedy, a NY-based director and photographer, which debuted at the Nashville Film Festival in April. Beware of the Dogs follows the story of the Canadian rockers - Ewan Currie , Ryan Gullen , Leot
Hanson and Sam Corbett - from their humble beginnings to landing Rolling Stone's cover and the musical and popular success which ensues.
"This was one of the most unique filmmaking experiences of my career," says Kennedy. "The
Sheepdogs are an inspiration to us all. Scratch the surface of these 'rock stars' and you'll find real, hard-working people with hopes and dreams. And a lot of musical talent."
In a time when the saturation of musical groups provides a sea of unknowns who remain unseen and unheard, The
Sheepdogs have managed to ride the wave and rise above. And deservedly so: After hundreds of shows, pushing through roadblock after roadblock, The
Sheepdogs perfected their vintage-boogie rock sound, and winding vocal harmonies. Their main desire is to create music the way they like it, keeping their sound true to themselves no matter how bright the spotlight shines on them. Their music and tight live sets have the power to instantly win over classic-rock fans.
Kennedy documents The Sheepdogs' journey in Beware the Dogs, a rock and roll tale that follows the band through performances in NY in front of the music industry's biggest execs to playing at Bonnaroo
Music & Arts Festival to an appearance on Late Night with
Jimmy Fallon to their hometown of Saskatoon. Candid moments with "dogs" admirers including
Kid Rock reveal why The
Sheepdogs earned it, won it, deserved it and are now rockin' it. From their North American tour with
Kings of Leon, to headlining in the U.S. and
Europe with their self-titled album produced in Nashville by Patrick Carney of the
Black Keys - now certified gold in Canada - The Sheepdogs' story, and their passion for music, will continue to be heard.
