NASHVILLE, TN. (Warner Bros.) - Johnny B. Sprague, a confirmed Bongo lover and bassist for Warner Brothers recording artist
Earshot fell in love with the Bongo the first time he touched it.
"I've always been a (Ernie Ball
Music Man) Stingray guy, until I got a hold of the Bongo. I will always love the Stingray, but the flexibility of the Bongo fits my persona better, and, I don't care what anyone says - I love the Bongo's body shape - it's strange and unusual and I'm strange and unusual. I like to be at the forefront of trendsetters," said Sprague.
Sprague first picked up the Bongo when it was shown to him as a prototype about a year and a half ago, and has been faithful to it ever since. He says that the Bongo gives him a much wider selection, and "the low end just crushes anything else."
"The EQ, the dual pick up and single coil pick up on the top give me the variables, so I can get the Stingray sound if I want it, but can go in other directions too. It's an extremely versatile bass," he explained. He said that he blends the two pick ups together, going back and forth between pick and finger playing, which allows him to have different types of tones, without having to touch a knob or pedal. Said Sprague, "That's the greatest factor about it - I can get tone differentials without having to do a thing."
Sprague has three Bongos - "That's all I use on the road." He also used the Bongo in a few tracks on the new album "Two," which was just released in June. Bongo features include an evolved artistic shape, advanced electronics, color coordination and a patented compensated nut that greatly improves intonation.
Earshot is currently touring with Saliva, and will continue touring throughout the holidays. The photo was taken at a recent tour stop in Tennessee. Earshot is a Tool-inspired metal outfit that performs a blend of moody heavy metal. The group formed in 1999 and signed to Warner Bros. after the label heard their melodic metal. Their first album, "Letting Go" was released in the summer of 2002.
The latest album, "Two," was released in June. The band is currently touring the U.S. through 2004.
