Soule Monde (Of Trey Anastasio Band) Comes To Cubby Bear In Chicago, IL On June 19, 2013
Chicago, IL (Top40 Charts/ Powderfinger Promotions) Soule Monde is a deep-funk improve outfit that features Russ Lawton and Ray Paczkowski, (of Trey Anastasio Band) and they are performing at Cubby Bear in Chicago, IL on Wednesday, June 19th.

Soule Monde draws notably from their many years of touring and recording with Phish frontman in the Trey Anastasio Band (TAB), and while the pair can be compared to The Benevento/Russo Duo or Billy Martin/Wil Blades, Soule Monde stake out their own turf by focusing on composition and narrative.

Paczkowski's bass lines provide a solid basis for his clavinet and Lawton's energetic rhythms, and there is a narrative quality to a lot of their tunes. Lawton provides reactive, always in the pocket drums, and Paczkowski unearths a repository of moves heretofore only foreshadowed in his work as a sideman. Paczkowski demonstrates a thorough understanding of players like Jimmy McGriff, Art Neville, Jimmy Smith and Herbie Hancock. The grammy-nominated Lawton's beats and fills push the melodies along a tightrope. There's nothing thrown together or haphazard or indulgent about this band or their album. It's a fully risen soufflé for the body and the mind.

Being members of The Trey Anastasio Band, it's fairly safe to assume that Hammond Organ player Ray Paczkowski and drummer Russ Lawton are damn good at what they do. So the only real question is: how much do you like instrumental jazz/funk? When it's played this well, honestly, it's hard to resist. Lawton keeps the grooves hard and Paczkowski knows how to keep a jam interesting, coming back to main melodic lines often enough that they feel like hooks, and never being too indulgent with his noodling. Each track has enough structure that you can follow along, and is also different enough from the other that the record as a whole is consistently interesting. -K.Gervais/Dispatch

Ray and Russ have been touring and recording with TAB since 1998 and 2001 respectively, and their collaborations include the live "Plasma" CD, "The Horseshoe Curve" and "TAB At The Tab Live" in Atlanta as well as DVD releases with Carlos Santana, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, and late night shows from David Letterman to Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien.
