LONDON, UK (Beenie Man Fans Website) - Jamaica's Beenie Man, who is among dancehall artists being slammed by gays for 'hateful lyrics,' has been excluded from this year's Mobo (Music Of Black Origin) Awards, set for Thursday September, 30 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Organizers of the annual awards say they will not condone songs with lyrics that incite hatred against gays or any other group, according to the London Times. Vannessa Amadi, a spokeswoman for the Mobo Awards, told the paper, "We do not believe in censorship, yet at the same time we do not believe in publicly promoting artists who use threatening lyrics. We have investigated various artists and looked into their lyrics and the potential effects of them. We do not accept the apologies made on behalf of Beenie Man. Just last week he released a record that is in circulation in Jamaica that includes anti-gay lyrics." Also, this move comes after MTV dropped Beenie Man from the lineup of a concert in Florida this weekend. Gay rights groups planned a protest against the reggae star over his history of homophobic. The Grammy-winning dancehall star issued an apology earlier this month. However, protests continued and concerts across Europe were canceled.
